A power outage at the Intercontinental Exchange’s (ICEs) primary data centre caused the exchange to close it markets for over three hours yesterday.

The markets shut down at 10.30am on Thursday, and were not reopened until 1.50pm later that afternoon.

The shutdown left bankers and brokers using the Atlanta-based trading system incapable of trading over-the-counter (OTC) and futures contracts.

As a result, all unexecuted active orders were held until the market reopened in the afternoon.
