Instinet, a global agency brokerage owned by Nomura Securities, has appointed Jonathan Kellner as president of its US brokerage subsidiary.

Kellner first joined Instinet in 2007 as head of the firm’s US sales trading when Nomura’s equity trading desk was integrated into Instinet’s US operations. Prior to the merger, Kellner held a variety of positions at Nomura including managing director for US equity and global portfolio sales and trading. He has also held senior trading and technology positions at Charles Schwab & Co, Investment Technology Group and Morgan Stanley.

In his new role, Kellner will take responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Instinet’s US business units.

“Jonathan understands the needs of our customers, the value of our franchise and the challenges presented by today’s rapidly changing and highly complex markets,” said Anthony Abenante, co-CEO of Instinet, in a statement. “His knowledge, experience and leadership will be invaluable in continuing the success Instinet has achieved during the past 18 months.”
