Katz chosen as FESE president

The Federation of European Securities Exchanges has appointed Six Swiss Exchange’s CEO, Christian Katz, as its new president.

The Federation of European Securities Exchanges (FESE) has appointed Six Swiss Exchange’s (SSE) CEO, Christian Katz, as its new president.

Katz is the first Swiss national to hold the position and will be tasked with representing FESE’s 41 members at a time of unprecedented regulatory change.

Commenting on his appointment, Katz said: “The European capital markets face big challenges. If we, as stock exchange and infrastructure providers, are to strengthen them further in an environment of rapidly increasing regulatory requirements, the structures must be changed carefully and prudently.

“We want to tackle this in close collaboration with the regulators and representatives of the financial sector.”

FESE has also appointed Martin Reck, managing director in charge of cash markets at Deutsche Börse, and Mark McGann, senior vice president and head of government affairs and public advocacy at NYSE Euronext, as its vice presidents.

All appointments are effective immediately and Katz will serve as president for a three-year term.
