L&G Asset Management global head of trading appointed global head of markets

Individual has spent the last eight years at the asset manager, having initially joined as head of equity trading.

Ed Wicks has been promoted to head of global markets at Legal & General Asset Management, a newly created role for the firm.

Wicks’ promotion marks an extension of his ongoing eight-year long tenure at the asset manager, having initially joined in 2015 as head of equity trading.

He later stepped up as global head of trading in 2017, and also assumed responsibility of leading liquidity management alongside this role in 2025.

Speaking to The TRADE on the appointment, a spokesperson for the firm said: “Ed Wicks is stepping into the newly created role of head of global markets. This change gives us the opportunity to bring all our market-facing activities under a single global structure. Ed’s remit will cover global trading, cash management, securities lending, and ETF capital markets.”

London-based Wicks has worked across capital markets for almost two decades, spanning roles at both sell- and buy-side firms.

Prior to his time at Legal & General, he spent almost four years as a trader at BlackRock.

He also served in a trading-based role at JP Morgan earlier in his career.

Wicks’ promotion follows further developments for Legal & General in recent months, with the firm taking home the prestigious award for FX Trading Desk of the Year at The TRADE’s Leaders in Trading awards for 2025.
