Macquarie Securities has made a significant expansion of its London-based brokerage business with 10 new hires.

The appointments have been made across its sales, trading and research teams in a move which the firm said will help it focus on strategic areas of importance.

Poya Bozorgi joins as head of European equity finance following seven years at the equity finance trading desk in Societe Generale.

Katie Ramsey becomes vice president of the electronic trading desk, with a focus on building Macquarie’s electronic trading capabilities in Europe. She has six years of experience in electronic trading at both Nomura and Credit Suisse.

The electronic trading desk also sees the appointment of George Sampson, formerly of Knight Capital Group, join as a manager.

On the research team, Dominic Nash joins as senior analyst for utilities and Jeremy Dibb will be senior analyst for metals and mining.

A total of five sales people have been hired, with Duncan Farr becoming head of financial institution sales in Europe, while Joanna Thompson joins as director of the European sales desk, looking to expand Macquarie’s European equity franchise.

Aqais Khan and James Stearns have been appointed as vice presidents covering long only and hedge fund accounts.

Lastly, Julian Cook is director of the US equity sales desk, joining from Morgan Stanley where he ran the US sales team.
