OptimX and FactSet partner to streamline bilateral liquidity within institutional trading workflows

The offering – enabled via FactSet’s EMS, Portware – will allow users to access OptimX’s differentiated bilateral liquidity network within their execution environment.

OptimX Markets has collaborated with FactSet’s execution management system (EMS), Portware, in a bid to integrate bilateral liquidity into institutional trading workflows.

The new integration – which spans both automated and user-driven workflows – is expected to allow traders to control how and when they interact with broker liquidity, with the aim of enabling efficient speed and precision for modern execution.

Specifically, Portware clients will be able to access OptimX’s differentiated bilateral liquidity network within their execution environment, while liquidity providers on OptimX can provide a range of high and low touch opportunities straight to the desktops of Portware clients.

David Barnett, founder and chief executive of OptimX Markets, said: “Integrating with Portware brings OptimX directly into the execution layer, where trading decisions are made in real time. This allows institutional traders to access bilateral liquidity more efficiently, while enabling brokers to engage with their clients in a more direct and controlled manner.”

In addition, all executions that occur via the new offering will remain fully attributed to the broker, to ensure client relationships are protected, and enhancing internalisation opportunities.

The collaboration is also expected to expand user access to a global network of active institutional trading desks.

“By integrating with OptimX, we are introducing a differentiated source of bilateral liquidity directly into the EMS, enabling traders to interact more intentionally with broker liquidity while maintaining control, transparency, and efficiency in the execution process,” said Robert Watts, director, strategy and product management at Portware.

Bilateral liquidity is a core focus for OptimX, and in July 2025, the firm executed its first live US equity trades on its bilateral liquidity network.

The network aims to streamline trader workflows, and trading on the platform aligns with an increasing demand for integrated broker-aligned workflows across the industry and is designed to provide both brokers and clients with fast setup without routing risk.
