Saxo Markets UK appoints industry veteran as its new COO

Incoming COO brings over 40 years’ experience to the bank, having previously worked at Cognizant, Broadridge Financial Solutions and Smartstream Systems.

Saxo Bank has appointed financial services industry veteran Peter Morris as the new chief operating officer and board member of its subsidiary, Saxo Markets UK Limited.

Morris will take on the role effective immediately, bringing over 40 years’ experience across financial institutions and financial technology companies to Saxo Markets UK.

Before joining Saxo Markets UK, Morris worked at several financial services firms and institutions: including Cognizant, Broadridge Financial Solutions, Smartstream Systems, BGC/Cantor Fitzgerald, Commerzbank, Nomura and Lehman Brothers.

He brings expertise in managing operations across finance, IT, risk management, legal and compliance to Saxo Markets UK, which will be beneficial for the firm as it continues to expand its offering amid increasing growth in the investment and trading space.

“Peter’s depth and breadth of expertise across the trading and technology landscape will be a huge asset to the firm at a time of great growth potential for the industry which will undoubtedly bring more opportunities for differentiation through technology, strong operational foundations and risk management. We are delighted to have him on board,” said Charles White-Thomson, chief executive of Saxo Markets UK.

In this new role, Morris will be based in London, reporting directly to White-Thomson.

His appointment follows a recent move which saw industry figures Nicholas Wilcock and Michael Ridley join Saxo Markets UK’s board as non-executive directors.

“Saxo has always placed a strong emphasis on operational robustness, and this is evidenced in the fact that its retail clients have long benefited from institutional-like experience,” said Morris.

“I am excited to help the firm continue to lead on operational resilience as the sector grows in both size and complexity.”
