SIX expands data services in Asia with Equinix

Data centre and co-location service provider Equinix has opened SIX Financial Information’s second Asia-Pacific infrastructure node in Japan.

Data centre and co-location service provider Equinix has opened SIX Financial Information’s second Asia-Pacific infrastructure node in Japan.

The Equinix TY3 International Business Exchange data centre in Tokyo will serve as a key hub for offering SIX Financial Information’s customers with services that enable execution of cross-territory trading strategies. This is the third deployment by SIX using Equinix, with centres in Singapore and Zurich, and the Tokyo node will give SIX access to the growing electronic trading community in Tokyo.

Alain Delfosse, managing director of SIX Financial Information Japan, said the rollout would offer SIX clients improved execution quality with faster access.

“With Platform Equinix, we can connect directly to our growing trading ecosystem inside TY3, many of which are customers and partners of SIX.

“Connectivity costs can also be controlled as demand scales through an extended choice of network providers inside Equinix,” Delfosse said.

Member’s of SIX Financial Information’s financial community will have access to secure data from the data centre, which will act as a hub for network participants and link to cloud computing service providers throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Equinix is seeking further expansion in China as market demand across the board and across the Asia-Pacific region continues to rise. In July, the company announced the completion of the US$48.9 million second phase of its International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre in Hong Kong and the US$230.5 million takeover of Hong Kong data centre operator Asia Tone, with a new facility in Shanghai also due to come online before the end of the year.
