Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking has hired Brian Curran from Royal Bank of Scotland, to the newly created position of head of portfolio trading and quantitative distribution for the UK and northern Europe.

Curran joins SocGen’s equity flow business having previously been head of equity execution service sales, Europe at RBS.

RBS said in January that it planned to shed 3,500 staff, which included the closing of its cash equities business.

Curran also joins Tim Harman, who joined SocGen earlier this year as a senior sales trader. Harman joined SocGen following seven years at Nomura, in the bank’s portfolio trading and delta one equity finance sales trading.

Curran and Harman will report to Andrew Willis, European deputy head of portfolio, index and exchange-traded fund execution.

SocGen’s said the two appointments are part of a continued investment into its global execution products. The new additions follow the hire of Howard Sherman from Deutsche Bank last week as head of cash equity trading.
