Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP) appointed a new investment director for European equities last week.

Chris Clarke, who has seven years of European equity experience, joins SWIP from Alliance Trust where he was an investment manager with a focus on large and mid-cap European equity stocks. Clarke is a CFA charter holder and is also a qualified chartered accountant, having formerly been an auditor at KPMG.

Based in SWIP’s Edinburgh office, Clarke will report to Steven Maxwell, head of European equities at SWIP. All of SWIP’s fund managers are responsible for research, analysis and portfolio construction and Clarke will undertake research and portfolio management roles, the firm says.

Clarke's appointment to SWIP’s European equity team follows that of Greig Bryson in November 2007. The team's aim is to deliver strong performance across retail and institutional portfolios.

"Clarke has established a solid track record investing in European equities and his fund management style is driven by focused research, which fits well with SWIP’s investment process,” comments Steven Maxwell, head, European equities, SWIP.
