Nasdaq to roll out AI capabilities on Calypso

The offering will allow clients to connect Nasdaq Calypso agents with their own proprietary AI infrastructure and is expected to support the scaling of institutional AI adoption across the industry.

Nasdaq is set to incorporate AI capabilities into its Calypso platform, specifically to support capital market and treasury operations.

The new offering provides clients with an agentic operating environment within the Nasdaq Calypso platform, which enables a contained and governed space for financial institutions to run, connect and scale AI agents across the trading lifecycle.

Moreover, the capabilities are expected to address bottlenecks which have previously prevented scaled institutional AI adoption.

“For institutions to adopt AI agents at scale, they need a trusted, governed infrastructure inside the capital market platforms they already run, a place to connect agents from many different sources to real workflows, data, and controls,” said Magnus Haglind, head of capital markets technology at Nasdaq.

“By integrating agentic capabilities and serving as the orchestration layer, we are evolving Nasdaq Calypso from a system of record into an intelligent platform that automates activity at every stage of the trade lifecycle.”

Nasdaq has confirmed that the operating environment will function by allowing clients to access Nasdaq Calypso’s agents and then connect then with their own proprietary AI infrastructure, via an integrated layer built on the model context protocol (MCP).

The agents will also be able to operate on core Nasdaq Calypso data, and can also be extended to additional enterprise, market and reference data sources.

The extended AI environment will also apply operational boundaries, as well as live oversight and strict sandboxing with no external data retention.
