DTCC tokenisation service goes live as it ‘establishes the foundation for responsible institutional adoption at scale’

There are currently 20 confirmed participants, including Bank of America, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Brown Brothers Harriman, Fidelity Investments, JP Morgan, UBS, State Street and Citadel Securities.

The Depository Trust Company (DTC), a subsidiary of the DTCC, has launched its tokenisation service that allows eligible market participants to create tokenised representations of securities.

Twenty DTC participants have signed agreements to access the service, including Alpaca, Apex Clearing Corporation, Bank of America, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Brown Brothers Harriman, Citadel Securities, Citi, Clear Street, DriveWealth, Edward Jones, Fidelity Investments, Interchange Clearing, JP Morgan, Marex, Mirae Asset Securities (USA), Morgan Stanley, State Street, UBS and Velocity Capital.

Frank La Salla, president and chief executive of DTCC, said: “Today marks the culmination of years of work to bring tokenised securities into a regulated framework supported by trusted market infrastructure. By extending DTC’s resiliency, governance and operational standards into digital markets, we are establishing the foundation for responsible institutional adoption at scale.”

The platform is designed to enable securities entitlements to be converted between traditional and tokenised forms and delivered to digital wallets.

The tokenised securities retain the ownership rights, investor protections and economic entitlements of their traditional counterparts.

The service, tester in July this year, was developed with input from more than 150 firms through the DTC Digital Assets Solutions Industry Working Group. It currently connects to the Canton Network and DTCC’s private Besu network, with further blockchain integrations planned for 2027.

DTCC has also brought together a wider group of digital asset and technology firms to support connectivity across digital markets. These include BitGo Bank & Trust, Blockdaemon, Broadridge, DFNS, DRW, Fireblocks, HIFI, Kaleido, Matter Labs, Ondo, Prometheum Capital, Talos, Taurus, Tradeweb, Transcend and Virtu.

Nadine Chakar, managing director, global head of DTCC Digital Assets, said: “Today’s launch demonstrates what can be achieved through sustained industry collaboration, regulatory engagement and a disciplined approach to innovation.

“This is only the beginning of DTCC’s ultimate goal to build the Web3 ecosystem of the future that bridges established, trusted market infrastructure and digital ledger technology.”
