HKEx nabs Nomura counsel for regulatory role

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing has brought in Nomura’s wholesale business former general counsel to be its chief regulatory officer.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEx) has brought in Nomura’s wholesale business former general counsel to be its chief regulatory officer.

In the newly-created position, David Graham will oversee HKEx’s listing division and all other regulatory, legal and compliance functions across the exchange.

Graham brings 30-plus years of experience in legal and financial services. He began at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in the UK in 1982, reaching partner by 1991 and moving to Hong Kong in 1999, where in 2001 he became general counsel at Morgan Stanley, Asia ex-Japan. He was with UBS for several years before joining Nomura in 2011.

Graham holds an MA in Jurisprudence from Oxford University was a member of the Securities and Futures Commission’s Takeovers Panel from 2001 to 2011, serving as deputy chairman from 2005 to 2012.
