The Buy-side Trading Community yesterday hosted its long-awaited and first ever physical buy-side bootcamp class for charity - and there's still time to donate.

Buy-side bootcamp, 6 July 2022

It’s been three years in the making, delayed repeatedly by Covid and then by the war in Ukraine, but on 6 July 2022 the Buy-side Trading Community and its members came together at Barry’s Saint Paul’s in London for the first ever physical buy-side bootcamp class, raising money for Cancer Research UK, Mind Mental Health Charities, and Unicef (supporting families and children affected by the war in Ukraine).

Led by team leaders Anita Karppi, managing director of the Buy-side Trading Community; Martin Hendry, trader at LionTrust Asset Management; and Paul Battams, head of trading at Blackrock, the charity class welcomed enthusiastic and energetic traders and portfolio managers from across the community, all keen to get sweaty for a good cause.

“I am participating in the #buysidebootcamp as it is a great way to raise awareness and much-needed funds for a number of excellent charities,” said Gregg Dalley, global head of trading at Schroders.

“I’m taking part… to raise money for the Mind Mental Health Charity,” added Simon Tring, head of equity trading at Aviva Investors. “I believe it’s important for me to help raise much-needed funds.”

The Buy-side Trading Community has been raising funds for charity since 2008, but yesterday’s event was the first physical community class that Covid has allowed.

“I couldn’t be more proud of these fantastic buy-side traders who all raised awareness and much-needed funds for these three fantastic charities,” said Karppi, speaking to The TRADE.

“The team were all amazing at the bootcamp, which was a strenuous, physical challenge. Having led the Buy-side Trading Community since 2009, I feel it is very important to give back, help others within the community suffering from mental health challenges and diagnosed with cancer and follow through on this quest we pledged in February 2020 to create a #buysidebootcamp. Thank you to the amazing team and all who have sponsored us so far!”

The event might have been and gone, but there is still time to donate. Please see the links below, and contribute what you can to these well-deserving causes. The TRADE is proud to support the Buy-Side Trading Community in this fundraising partnership.
