Renaissance Capital, an emerging markets focused investment bank, has tapped ex-BarCap chief Damian Bunce to run the firm’s electronic trading business.

Formerly head of electronic trading distribution for Europe at Barclays Capital, Bunce joins Renaissance Capital in February as global head of the firm’s electronic trading group and a member of RenCap’s markets executive committee.

Bunce will focus on integrating the broker’s electronic and traditional trading business across equity and fixed income. He will also take a lead role in offering execution services to clients in the firm’s key markets of Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, central and eastern Europe, Asia and Africa.

A onetime head of execution sales in Europe at Goldman Sachs, Bunce will report to Nick Andrews, RenCap’s global head of markets.

“Damian has significant experience in the electronic business, particularly in developed markets and technology, which combined with our expertise in the Russian market, will be a very powerful combination,” said Andrews.

The former BarCap director’s appointment follows the departure of a number of RenCap’s senior electronic trading figures earlier this year, including former head Stanislav Surikov and Michael Smith, who was director of electronic trading. Smith and Surikov joined Broker Credit Service, a Russia-based broker.
