Barclays names new head of securitised products bond trading

Incoming individual has previously served at: Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse, and Atlas SP Partners.

David Garner is set to join Barclays as head of securitised products bond trading in June, following just over a year as managing director at Atlas SP Partners.

Garner has two decades of industry experience, having previously spent 14 years at Credit Suisse, most recently as co-head of securitised products trading.

In his new role, Garner will be based in New York and report to global head of securitised products, Scott Eichel.

Speaking in an announcement, Eichel said: “This appointment underlines our commitment to attract and invest in the best talent. David brings a wealth of technical and product experience, alongside a strong track record of leadership in trading franchises across agency and non-agency desks.

“Looking ahead, we are confident that our clients will benefit from David’s expertise as we execute against our next set of priorities and deliver on our next phase of growth.”

Garner moved to Atlas following the Apollo Global Management acquisition of Credit Suisse’s SP franchise last year.

Barclays specifically highlighted Garner’s “deep client relationships and product knowledge” as key factors as they seek to grow its global markets business – a key revenue driver for the firm.

Barclays’ stated goal is to become a top five securitised products trading desk in the US.
