Liquidnet has launched a new electronic trading platform – Liquidnet Meridian – as part of an effort to support institutional investors in navigating fragmented equity markets, The TRADE can reveal.

Specifically, the new offering builds on Liquidnet’s current electronic capabilities, and combines new algorithms and analytics, expanded liquidity access and AI-enhanced expertise under a single offering.
The platform also brings together dark, lit and alternative liquidity, and through the single agency gateway, more than 1,100 members will gain access to the firm’s $100 billion dark pool, as well as more than 166 external lit and dark venues, and bilateral liquidity providers spanning 56 countries.
Speaking to The TRADE, Chris Jackson, global head of equities at Liquidnet, confirmed that the offering is designed to support buy-side traders looking to minimise information leakage, uncover hidden liquidity and achieve best execution.
He added: “In volatile, fragmented markets, depth and diversity of liquidity across lit and dark markets are essential, however, connectivity is nothing without the ability to navigate a disparate liquidity landscape. Meridian is therefore built to improve navigation and enhance execution through powerful technology and experienced coverage teams.
“Our ability to customise the platform to the specific needs of the buy-side gives users the tools and access they need to execute regardless of order complexity or trading objective.”

Liquidnet Meridian’s coverage spans orders of all sizes against trading benchmarks such as IS, VWAP, POV and MOC, and also provides direct access to Liquidnet’s global quant, sales and execution consulting teams.
The platform’s launch also marks a step forward in the development and expansion of Liquidnet’s electronic capabilities moving forward, according to the firm.
“Liquidnet Meridian provides a clearer way to bring those capabilities together under a single platform,” added Mark Govoni, chief executive of Liquidnet, speaking to The TRADE.
“It reflects our long-term commitment to helping clients navigate increasingly complex markets through a combination of technology, analytics, liquidity access and execution expertise.”
