BATS Exchange, the US equity trading venue owned by BATS Global Markets, has promoted Joe Bracco to head of US sales and vice president.

Bracco will takeover the chief sales role from Randy Williams, who will now focus on global communications. Bracco was previously BATS’ director of US sales, managing client accounts and relationships related to the dissemination of BATS market data. He will report to Joe Ratterman, CEO of BATS Exchange and BATS Global Markets.

Bracco joined BATS in February 2008 after 22 years service at broker Cantor Fitzgerald in New York, where he became partner and senior vice president responsible for building relationships with large primary dealers, hedge funds, futures trading accounts and regional dealers. His time at Cantor Fitzgerald included a stint at its Tradespark subsidiary, where he was involved in building and selling the firm’s electronic energy trading platform.

“We are pleased to announce Mr. Bracco’s promotion as we prepare to launch our US options platform and a second US equities exchange in the first half of 2010,” said Ratterman in a statement. “He has become an invaluable member of the BATS team, building client relationships while getting BATS market data on high-profile web sites, and we’re excited about the experience and work ethic he brings to this leadership role.”
