Former Liquidnet director John Barker has been appointed as executive chairman of specialist Russian broker BCS.
Barker was formerly managing director and head of international at Liquidnet Europe. He also worked in senior positions at Instinet Global Services, including head of trade support. He has acted as a non-executive director of BCS since January last year.
As executive chairman of BCS, he will focus on driving the international business strategy. He will also take responsibility for overseeing corporate governance issues including regulation, risk management and compliance.
Tim Bevan, managing director of BCS Prime Brokerage, said: “It is crucial that as we continue to expand that we have the right people and infrastructure firmly in place. John’s leadership skills, knowledge of the buy and sell side, and his reputation and credibility in the market will add significant value to the firm as we seek to build on our early successes.”
BCS specialises in trading equities and FX on the Moscow Stock Exchange and in 2013 has made a major push into Western Europe to tap investor appetite for Russian stocks.
As part of its growth, it has recently secured membership of the London Stock Exchange.
