Citi has appointed Ian Smith to lead its electronic execution product division for Asia-Pacific.

Smith joins Citi after spending ten years at rival investment bank Credit Suisse, most recently as head of Advanced Execution Services product, Asia-Pacific.

In his new role, Smith will work closely with Ben Valentine, Citi's head of electronic execution sales trading and lead a team of five focused on developing electronic execution solutions.

Smith will report to Paul Sanger, Citi's head of execution services for Asia-Pacific. Citi has said it expects to make further hires across its sales and trading team in the coming months.

The hire follows Citi's extension of its CitiSmart electronic trading platform into Indian and Malaysian markets earlier this year. Citi currently operates electronic trading services in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore and Taiwan.

“Ian's market knowledge, experience in creating execution platforms and client relationships will be instrumental in helping drive our business forward in this area which is a major strategic priority,” commented Sanger.
