Citi’s ex-European futures head joins FinTech firm as CEO

Former futures head at Citi joins BMLL Technologies.

Citigroup’s former European head of listed derivatives has joined machine learning FinTech firm BMLL Technologies as its new chief executive.

John MacPherson joined the company in November, almost a year after he left the US investment bank.

BMLL Technologies offers a cloud-based technology platform providing historic limit order book data on a per ticket, per trading day basis for all global liquid financial securities including equities, listed derivatives, spot FX, treasuries, bonds and ETFs.

Prior to Citigroup, MacPherson was global head of futures and options at Nomura. He also served nine years at Goldman Sachs as head of fixed income futures and options sales and execution in EMEA.

MacPherson is the latest high profile figure to migrate from the exchange-traded industry to FinTech. The former head of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Duncan Neiderauer recently joined the board of directors at blockchain firm Paxos.

Eurex’s former head of innovation Brendan Bradley left the derivatives exchange in the summer of this year to pursue a new career in FinTech.
