On Wednesday, CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets (CLSA), one of Asia’s independent investment groups, announced the appointment of J. Niranjan as managing director and co-head of investment banking. Niranjan will be based in Mumbai, India and will work alongside CLSA veteran Pankaj Agrawal to manage the continued expansion of the group's investment banking capabilities.

Philip Crotty, head of investment banking, suggests an expanded Indian team will ensure that CLSA is strategically positioned to exploit its strong experience in global depository receipts and qualified institutional placements, and to broaden its existing alliance with SBI Capital Markets.

Niranjan built his career at ICICI Securities and Finance Company and was most recently head of investment banking there. CLSA says he was instrumental in many capital market transactions including, among others, initial public offerings of DLF, Power Finance Corporation, Reliance Petroleum, Global Broadcast News Network, Indian Bank, Info Edge (India), National Thermal Power Corp and Maruti Udyog. In addition, he undertook advisory assignments for clients including Wartsila Corporation, Spentex Industries and Hughes Network Systems.
