Dr John Bates, founder and vice president, Apama Products, Progress Software, will lead two industry discussions this week on significant new trends in capital markets. Today Bates chairs a panel on ‘Trading in Multiple Marketplaces’ at the TSX/RS 2007 Market Structure Conference in Montreal. Later this week on Thursday, March 22, Bates will participate in a live webinar on algorithmic strategies for fixed income, in conjunction with Advanced Trading and Wall Street & Technology.

At today’s TSX/RS 2007 Conference, Bates will explore the impact on Canadian industry participants of the evolution of technology, regulation, trading strategies and marketplaces. What are the biggest challenges in adapting to a multiple marketplace environment? How do dark liquidity pools create value? Can efficiencies be created by cross-asset trading platforms? Bates and a panel of industry experts will examine these issues during a session that begins at 1:15pm EDT.

At Thursday’s webinar, entitled ‘Are Fixed Income Algos Ready for Prime Time?’, Bates will present alongside Brad Bailey, senior analyst, Aite Group and Eric Karpman, vice-president, BNY Asset Management. During the session, which begins at 11.00am EDT, the group will address the current structure of today’s fixed-income markets and identify the areas where algorithms can add to productivity.
