Former Citi and Morgan Stanley trader joins BNP Paribas’ EU single stock trading team

Incoming trader joins three other hires into the single stock team in the last year as it looks to bolster its offering in the space.

A former trader at Citi and Morgan Stanley has joined the European single stock trading team at BNP Paribas, The TRADE can reveal.

According to an internal memo, Paul Barker has today joined BNP Paribas as a senior trader in the division after also previously serving in the single stock trading teams at Citi and Morgan Stanley.

BNP Paribas said Barker’s addition reflected its ambition to building a leading flow trading team in Europe.

The bank has continued to build out its single stock trading team in Europe in the last year, including three other new hires. Ashish Arora joined the team from JP Morgan in January earlier this year, while Thomas Barry and Duncan Chiah were also appointed onto the team from Citi and Bank of America respectively in 2021.

“These recent big changes to the profile of BNP Paribas’s equities franchise demonstrates the bank’s commitment to developing and sustaining a global equity business,” said BNP Paribas in a statement.

The expansion of its single stock team follows several major moves by the bank to bolster its equities business including consolidating Exane BNP Paribas on 1 July last year and completing the transfer of Deutsche Bank’s prime brokerage and electronic execution business at the end of 2021.
