Digital prime broker GCEX has gone live with options on Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) for institutional clients.

The new offering provides accessibility to European-style, fiat-settled options with monthly expiries, which enables clients to hedge existing digital asset exposure, sell options against assets held or take positions.
Lars Holst, founder and chief executive of GCEX, said: “Our institutional clients have been asking for a regulated way to hedge and manage their digital asset exposure without onboarding to an exchange.
“Options booked through our OTC desk give them that, with the same regulated counterparty, onboarding and reporting they already use for digital asset spot and FX. We hedge every trade with our liquidity providers, so we don’t take the other side of our clients’ positions.”
Holst also confirmed potential plans to expand the offering to other digital assets depending on client demand.

Specifically, through the offering, clients request directly from the GCEX OTC desk, with pricing sourced from GCEX’s tier one liquidity providers.
Moreover, the positions, valuations and settlements are reported on GCEX’s XplorPortal.
Enhancing digital asset accessibility for institutional clients has been a core focus for GCEX recently, and in April 2026, the firm entered a partnership with global digital asset market maker, Cumberland.
The new offering sees Cumberland integrating its spot cryptoasset liquidity offering into GCEX’s execution infrastructure, to allow both institutional and professional clients with access to a wider, more competitive pool of liquidity enabled via a regulated prime brokerage structure.
