Instinet operates a 6x24 hour global agency portfolio trading desk. Its capabilities have been significantly enhanced following the migration of Nomura’s former execution services business to Instinet via increased headcount and expanded market access. The Global Portfolio Trading (GPT) team has a dedicated headcount of 12 in the Asia-Pacific region (including Nomura Japan members).

Liquidity

GPT’s Asia-Pacific hub is in Hong Kong and global
market access is provided via the Newport 3 execution management system.
Instinet accesses the markets directly via its own memberships, in partnership
with Nomura’s six regional Asia-Pacific offices or direct market access through
third-party brokers.

Globally, Instinet
accesses 100% of the MSCI Developed and Emerging markets, and an increasing
coverage footprint of the MSCI Frontier markets. GPT trades are executed via
the same technologies that underpin Instinet globally, including Instinet’s
algorithms, smart order router, analytics suite and crossing mechanisms. Instinet
maintains segregation of flows but maintains crossing opportunities at the same
time. This allows the firm to improve execution quality while minimising market
impact.

Tools

Instinet transacts and advises, including event
analysis, for a wide variety of client types including institutional,
quantitative, passive and active index managers.

Capital commitment

Instinet offers transition management, exchange
traded fund services and capital commitment on an arms-length basis via Nomura.

Post-trade

The Instinet analytics suite encompasses portfolio
generation, risk analysis, trade scheduling and visualisation, including pre-,
real-time, and post-trade execution review. Instinet also offers a broker
neutral trading consultation for clients to help them understand where trade
timing or strategy enhancements could improve the trading outcomes.

Future plans

Instinet is continuously developing and enhancing
the product suite that underpins its global portfolio platform.
