HKEx appoints mainland market development head

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEx) has appointed Yang Qiumei as deputy head of market development and head of the market development division's mainland development department.

Yang will join HKEx on 18 October 2010 as a member of the senior management committee and will report to Romnesh Lamba, HKEx's head of market development. The market development team was established earlier this year under Lamba to ensure the its systems and infrastructure can meet support the exchange's strategic objectives.

Before joining HKEx, Yang's most recent role was deputy director-general in the department of investment fund supervision at the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), where she was in charge of supervising fund management companies and matters concerning institutional investors.

Prior to joining the CSRC in 2000, Yang was a consultant at the organisation for economic cooperation and development in Paris and an adjunct professor in the department of economics at George Washington University in the US. She has also held research and teaching posts in the US, China and Eastern Europe.
