US investment bank Jefferies has appointed Zubin Ramdarshan as a managing director and head of European volatility trading in the firm's global equity derivatives group. Ramdarshan will be based in Jefferies' London office.

Ramdarshan has more than 11 years of equity derivatives trading experience and joins the firm from Australian bank Macquarie, where he was head of European volatility trading. Previously, he spent five years at investment bank Bear Stearns as a senior managing director for derivatives flow trading, and prior to that, four years at Deutsche bank in equity derivatives trading.

Andrew Shortland, head of equities, EMEA at Jefferies, added that the hiring of Ramdarshan is part of the firm's plan to expand and globalise its sales and trading capabilities across equities and fixed income.

The firm made several appointments to its international equity sales and research sales team last year. Its equities group currently consists of just under 650 personnel across the US, Europe and Asia.
