The global head of equities at the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has been appointed non-executive director of outsourced dealing desk BTON Financial.

Brian Schwieger was confirmed for the role alongside Tony Walker, former managing director of execution services at Merrill Lynch. Both have been tasked with helping shape the direction of BTON Financial as it looks to serve mid-sized asset managers seeking additional liquidity and execution opportunities.

Schwieger has been with the LSEG since 2013 and is responsible for the equity markets in London and Milan. As well as this, he is co-head of ETF and fixed income markets in London and is a non-executive director of the exchange’s fixed income trading platform MTS.

“I am looking forward to supporting BTON Financial as it pursues its ambitious growth and development strategy,” Schwieger said. “The industry is ready for an independent outsourced dealing desk for asset managers looking to innovate and remain competitive in a rapidly changing market environment.”

Walker has more than 20 years’ experience in electronic trading and began his career at Lehman Brothers. He joined Merrill Lynch in 2006 and helped develop its electronic trading division in terms of market access and algorithmic access for clients. He is also a non-executive director for Citadel Securities Europe.

“The buy-side and particularly asset management is at the epicentre of the changes that the industry is undergoing,” Walker commented. “There is a significant opportunity for both BTON Financial and asset managers to adapt to the changes driven by regulation and cost, to drive performance through automation.”

BTON Financial CEO, Dan Shepherd, concluded that the appointment of both Walker and Schwieger as non-executive directors will be invaluable to the firm’s leadership team as it enters the next stage of growth development.
