Nasdaq Europe firms up go-live for trajectory trading

The new offering is set to launch in November 2026 and will provide institutional investors with new access pathways for liquidity while also supported by the protections of Nasdaq’s regulated venues.

Nasdaq Europe has confirmed plans to launch trajectory trading in November 2026, to support institutional investors looking to access liquidity in European equities while minimising market impact.

The launch follows the granting of a license by the Dutch Authority for Financial Markets on 26 October, and marks the start of a phased commercial rollout.

The new offering leverages Nasdaq PureStream technology, and the firm is currently working with market participants to support onboarding and operational readiness.

“As markets become more global and interconnected, institutional investors need more sophisticated ways to access liquidity while minimising market impact,” said Roland Chai, head of digital liquidity networks, Nasdaq.

“This new offering expands the ways investors can access liquidity in European equities, while maintaining the benefits and protections of trading on Nasdaq’s regulated venues.”

Moreover, by using the PureStream proprietary matching technology, investors are able to match trading interest based on a percentage of future market volume, as well as execute over time at volume-weighted average prices.

Speaking to The TRADE in July 2026, Henrik Husman, vice president of European equities and president of Nasdaq Helsinki explained that bringing PureStream to Europe “felt natural”, driven by the “age-old challenge” of finding new ways to execute large trades with minimal market impact.

Initially, the offering will cover selected equities on Nasdaq Copenhagen, Nasdaq Helsinki and Nasdaq Stockholm, as well as selected equities from nine other European markets.

Nasdaq has confirmed that coverage is set to expand to approximately 1,200 additional European equities in January 2027.

The launch follows significant expansion for Nasdaq in Europe in recent months as the firm prepares for the rollout of PureStream after successful models in the US and Canada.

Since 2021, US institutional investors have had access to Nasdaq’s volume-based trajectory trading facility, which was later expanded to Canadian participants in 2022.
