Individual is currently executive vice president and president of European markets at Nasdaq; Roland Chai, current executive vice president of marketplace technology at Nasdaq will take over his role from next year.

Bjørn Sibbern has been appointed global head of exchanges at SIX, effective as of 1 January 2024, overseeing the Swiss and Spanish exchanges and the digital exchange, SDX.

Sibbern is currently executive vice president and president of European Markets at Nasdaq and will also sit on the SIX executive board as part of the role.

Christoph Landis was the previous head of SIX’s exchange business – taking up the position on an interim basis in February 2023. After Sibbern assumes the role, Landis will take up his previous role as head of IT, as well as a member of the SIX executive board.

Sibbern has been active in the capital markets space for more than two decades and has worked in various roles for Nasdaq as well as other exchange institutions. As president of European markets as Nasdaq he currently oversees the Nordic and Baltic regions.

According to an internal memo seen by The TRADE, Roland Chai – currently executive vice president of marketplace technology at Nasdaq – will lead the ETS business following Sibbern’s departure next year.

The memo also highlighted that in addition to the wide-ranging work Sibbern undertook during his time as executive vice president and president of European Markets, he had also advocated for, and led, the development of the business’ financial literacy programs, aiming to democratise financial knowledge.

Speaking to the new appointment, Jos Dijsselhof, chief executive at SIX, said: “We have every confidence he [Sibbern] will be key to driving the continued advancement of our exchange business, making a substantial contribution to the overarching growth strategy of the company.

“I would also like to thank Christoph Landis for leading the exchanges on an interim basis over the last few months – he has done a phenomenal job”.
