The Singapore Exchange (SGX) has named Loh Boon Chye, former deputy president and head of global markets for Asia-Pacific at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, as its new chief executive officer.

He takes over from Magnus Böcker who departs after five and a half years at the exchange.

Loh began his career as an investment officer with the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 1989, before joining the Singapore branch of Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. of New York in 1992.

From 1995 to 2012, he was with Deutsche Bank AG, Singapore, where he held the posts of chief executive of the global markets division in Singapore, and head of global markets – Asia.

“I have previously had the opportunity to be involved with SGX and seen it grow into a truly international exchange that is a gateway to Asia,” said Loh. “In a rapidly evolving financial landscape, SGX has to adapt to stay ahead and I look forward to working with the stellar team towards this goal."
