Soc Gen promotes O’Hara to lead US prime brokerage and clearing

O'Hara replaces Alain Courbebaisse, who joined Euronext in May as its new chief information and technology officer.

Societe Generale has promoted John O’Hara as head of prime brokerage and clearing business for the Americas, marking the latest reshuffle for the former Newedge unit.

O’Hara will oversee all of Societe Generale’s US prime brokerage business lines, futures and OTC derivatives clearing, while also retaining his prior responsibilities as global head of foreign exchange prime brokerage and FX clearing.

He replaces Alain Courbebaisse, who left the French bank in May to join pan-European exchange Euronext as its new chief information and technology officer.

O’Hara joined Societe Generale in 2015, after serving over six years at Credit Suisse as head of hedge fund sales for FX prime brokerage, OTC derivatives clearing and futures. He also headed up the North American prime brokerage business at RBS.

His promotion marks the latest reshuffle within Societe Generale’s prime brokerage business.

Last month Graham Smith, the bank’s head of prime brokerage sales for the Americas, left to set up his own prime broker consultancy.

This was followed by the promotion of Lloyd Michaels as head of prime services sales for the EMEA region, and the appointment of Dereke Seeto in Hong Kong as head of securities finance and delta one sales for Asia Pacific.
