Trading technology provider and agency broker Tora has opened an office in Sydney, Australia as part of the firm's Asia-Pacific expansion.

The office will be headed by Nathan Eason, who has been appointed vice president of sales for Australia. He will oversee client activities and sales initiatives for products including TORA Compass, which is designed to deliver advanced trade execution capabilities.

“Australia is a huge opportunity as it is one of the region's most important markets and has a sophisticated asset management community,” said Chris Jenkins, managing director, Asia Pacific at Tora, adding that Eason's knowledge of Australian financial markets would help the firm to broaden its local client-base.

Eason joins Tora from SimCorp, a provider of integrated financial software solutions, and has over 15 years of experience on the buy- and sell-sides as well as the financial technology industry, working in markets including Sydney and London.

Tora Trading currently has offices in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The firm also recently connected MLXN, the dark trading venue operated by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, to its TORA Crosspoint off-exchange liquidity venue, which trades Japan-listed securities, in September 2010.
