Tradeweb unveils session-based trading for municipal bond market

The new offering - Muni Sweep - complements increased electronification in municipal bond markets and provides a single defined trading window to allow participants to reduce risk tie-up and increase turnover.

Tradeweb has launched a new session-based trading protocol specifically designed to support market participants trading in the municipal bond market.

The Muni Sweep solution acts as a session-based workflow, to concentrate municipal inventory into a short-defined trading window, providing participants with a single event to review opportunities, accept relevant interest and compare pricing levels ahead of the session close.

By launching the offering, Tradeweb has confirmed that Muni Sweep will reduce the time spent waiting for risk to be released in traditional bid-wanted workflows and ensure market makers can assess and act on large books of line items in a quick and efficient manner.

Troy Dixon, co-head of global markets at Tradeweb, commented: “Muni Sweep is designed to give market makers a faster, more structured way to manage inventory in today’s market.

“We’ve already seen this protocol gain momentum across other products on our platforms and bringing it to municipals is a natural next step in how we build for our clients’ businesses.”

The tool also aligns with increasing electronification in the municipal bond market in recent years.

Through the solution, market participants can bring inventory to a Muni Sweep session with CUSIP, size and an optional mark yield or price, to which Tradeweb will provide a composite price.

This in turn enables clients to quickly review levels, accept relevant interest and commit risk all within the session window.

Moreover, the tool can also be used for inventory upload and filtering, sorting and Excel import and export.

Similarly, in September 2026, Tradeweb expanded its automated bond price engine, Ai-Price, as part of an effort to expand price discovery, execution quality and liquidity access in US corporate bond markets.

Specifically, the suite of advancements include: expanded data inputs, upgraded machine learning models, and more real-time, intraday-responsive pricing.
