UBS Asset Management COO returns to Vontobel as financial chief

Dr Martin Sieg Castagnola will step down as CFO after 12 years in the position, to be replaced by UBS Asset Management operating chief, Thomas Heinzl.

UBS Asset Management’s chief operating officer and chairman in Switzerland is set to return to Vontobel to become the investment manager’s chief financial officer.

Thomas Heinzl will take on the new role as CFO at Vontobel later this month, replacing Dr. Martin Sieg Castagnola who steps down from the position after 12 years.

Heinzl is re-joining Vontobel after previously leading its investment, sales and project management from 2012 until 2014. More recently, he has served in various senior roles at UBS Asset Management, overseeing strategy, regulation, business and repetitional risk management. He has also led multiple global digitisation projects during his career.

“Thomas Heinzl is an expert with first-hand knowledge of our core businesses of asset and wealth management. He also has many years of experience in risk management matters and proven technical knowhow that fits well with our strengths in the field of technology,” said Zeno Staub, CEO of Vontobel.

While Dr. Castagnola is stepping down from his CFO position, Vontobel said he will remain close to the business to provide support to Dr. Hans-Dieter Vontobel, chairman of the Vontobel Foundation, in manging his investments and real estate.

“Martin Sieg Castagnola will support me directly in the future with his financial knowhow. In his new role, he will thus be continuing the successful work he has performed with great dedication and expertise over the years for Vontobel. I look forward to our close collaboration in the future,” Dr. Hans-Dieter Vontobel commented.
