Swiss bank UBS has appointed six executives to its pan-European equity sales desk, based in London, over the past week.

On 1 July the firm added Ben Watson, Matthew West, Pui Kei Yuen and Michael Hall to the team, and followed this up with the appointments of James Rose and Myfanwy Parratt on 8 July.

“Our objective in rebuilding our UK European equities desk has been to give our existing sales team more client opportunity,” a UBS memo read. “Through hires and internal moves we will also significantly increase the level of experience on the desk and improve the number and quality of our senior UK institutional key decision-maker relationships. These changes put us back in a very strong position.”

Watson has returned to UBS as an executive director with responsibility for the coverage of a number of the firm’s priority UK clients for pan-European equities.

He left UBS in 2004 to run the pan-European mid- and small-cap sales desk at rival bank Morgan Stanley.

West has joined the firm as executive director in pan-European equity sales and will cover priority UK-based clients for UK products. Before joining UBS, West was a senior UK equity salesperson at Citigroup, having previously worked as an analyst and stockbroker for a number of sell-side firms, including a stint as head of specialist sales at HSBC James Capel.

Yuen will join UBS’s generalist sales desk on her return from leave from the bank. She was most recently head of European specialist sales.

Hall has also moved internally to join the generalist sales desk, having previously been a technology analyst at UBS. He joined the firm in 2007 from Deutsche Bank.

Rose has joined UBS from Macquarie Securities as executive director in pan-European mid- and small-cap sales. Before working at Macquarie, Rose spent eight years at Citigroup – six as a small-cap salesman and two as a proprietary trader in European emerging equity markets.

Parratt has moved internally to the position of director of the mid- and small-cap sales desk from the bank’s corporate broking department, where she worked as an investor relations advisor for large-cap and mid-market groups.
