Woodbine Associates, a US-based research and advisory firm, has appointed Ryan Surprenant, a former executive at rival consultancy Aite Group, as its new director of sales.

Surprenant, who will contribute to product development as well as running the firm’s sales and relationship management effort, has almost a decade of sales and experience within the financial services industry, and was previously responsible for Aite Group’s business development efforts in the Northeast region of the US and Canada.

“We are very excited to welcome Ryan to our team. Not only will he bring a tighter focus to customer relationship management and expertise to our sales efforts, he will also be a great role model for our growing business and expanding practices,” said Matt Samelson, principal, Woodbine Associates.

Woodbine Associates, a Massachusetts-headquartered independent capital markets research and advisory firm, employs former traders as analysts, each of whom have more than ten years’ experience in the markets they cover.

In April, the firm issued a research report, ‘High-frequency trading:

The impact of high-frequency strategies on spreads and volatility in highly-liquid US equities’, which examined execution quality and volatility in the 39 most liquid US equities during 2008 and 2009.
