ADIA
Nicolas Bader has joined Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) as head of cross-asset and systematic execution after nearly 19 years at GIC.
Bader will be based out of Abu Dhabi in his new role, relocating from London where he most recently served as a senior execution trader at GIC, covering equities, FX, fixed income and commodities for all liquid instruments.
He initially joined GIC as an equity and commodity trader in 2007, before moving into a fixed income and FX trading role, and later stepping into his most recent position.
Previously in his career, he served as an equity derivatives prop trader at Natixis, based out of Paris.
Schroders
Schroders has named Neil Sutherland as head of US fixed income, who steps into the role as Lisa Hornby departs for pastures new.
The move marks an internal promotion for New York-based Sutherland, who has been at Schroders for 13 years, initially joining as a portfolio manager for core plus strategies.
Sutherland brings extensive buy-side fixed income experience to his new role, and prior joining Schroders, he spent almost five years on the US west coast, serving as a principal, portfolio manager at STW Fixed Income.
Earlier in his career, he also held investment manager positions at AXA Investment Managers and Newton Investment Management, both based out of London.
Currently, Hornby’s next position is unconfirmed.
She initially joined the asset manager as a portfolio manager in 2010, before moving up the ranks to head up US multi-sector fixed income, and later leading the firm’s US fixed income offering.
Balyasny Asset Management
Mike DiSpirito has joined Balyasny Asset Management as an equity trader, after more than 11 years at BlackRock.
New York-based DiSpirito joins the firm after most recently serving as a director in equity and derivatives trading at BlackRock, where he headed up the European index, systematic and transitions trading pod.
He initially joined the asset management giant as a vice president in portfolio finance in 2015, before later becoming a vice president in equity and derivatives trading, based out of London.
Prior to this, he worked at Citi for almost two years as an assistant vice president, markets treasury.
Previously in his career, DiSpirito also gained early asset management experience as PwC.
Clear Street
Jonathan Mortenson has been named director of outsourced trading at Clear Street.
He joins from Harding Loevner where he served for 13 and a half years, most recently as senior trader.
In his most recent role, New Jersey-based Mortenson managed global equity execution, as well as overseeing all algorithmic trading for the firm.
His remit encompassed developed, emerging, and frontier markets, with additional focus on the optimisation of low-touch versus high-touch routing.
Previously in his career, Mortenson has served in senior trading-related roles at firms including: Artio Global, Collins Stewart, and ING.
Banca Akros
Neil Terence O’Connor has joined Banca Akros as an equity sales trader, based in Milan.
O’Connor brings 35 years of markets experience to his new role, where he will cover local and foreign institutional clients, reporting to Giovani Musarra, head of sales and trading and Stefano Ottavi, head of brokerage at Banca Akros, O’Connor tells The TRADE.
O’Connor joins the Italian investment bank from brokerage business MIT SIM, where he spent almost two years as a specialist on the EGM small caps Italian market.
Prior to this, he spent 15 years at ACCIONA Group’s Spanish asset manager, Bestinver, providing sales trading and execution services for Italian Swiss, US and UK-based institutional clients.
Prior to this, he also worked in equity-related roles at Citi and Schroders, based in Milan and London respectively.
