BATS Europe, a pan-European multilateral trading facility (MTF) being set up by US trading platform operator BATS Trading, has hired heads of infrastructure, sales, compliance and finance. The MTF is scheduled to launch before the end of this year.

Clem Marsh has been appointed head of infrastructure for BATS Europe. His experience includes time as director of infrastructure and operations at Euronext Liffe Market Solutions, where he worked with BATS Europe CEO Mark Hemsley.

Alex Dalley, former head of membership and exchange trading at the London Stock Exchange (LSE), has been hired as head of sales. Joining him on the sales team will be Michael Newell, who was a technical advisor and technical account manager at the LSE from 2005 to 2007, and Happy Ullah, who has worked at ITG Europe and Instinet Europe.

Anna Westbury has joined BATS Europe as head of compliance, and Michael Beaver has been appointed head of finance.

Beaver was most recently vice president and controller at Lehman Brothers’ mortgage capital division in the UK.

The new team members will join CEO Hemsley and chief operating officer Paul O’Donnell. “Bringing in these top flight performers is further indication of BATS’ ability to draw top talent while executing our plan to gain significant market share in Europe,” Hemsley said in a statement. “As we move closer to MTF status, these key appointments will be focused on implementing our strategy and working to make markets better in Europe for years to come.”
