BNP Paribas hires from Bernstein for new Asian equity agency program trading head

New hire brings more than two decades of experience to the role, and also previously served at firms including Fidelity, Sanford C. Bernstein and TT International. 

Ben Chan has joined BNP Paribas in Hong Kong, stepping into the role of head of Asian equity agency program trading.  

Chan has worked across capital markets for more than two decades, serving in various trading-based roles on both the buy- and sell-side.  

He joins BNP Paribas from the Societe Generale and AllianceBernstein joint venture, Bernstein, where he spent almost two years as head of Asia execution sales.

He also previously served at Sanford C. Bernstein – later known as Alliance Bernstein following acquisition by Alliance Capital – where he held a managing director role, working across algo, portfolio sales and trading.  

Prior to this, Chan served in trader roles at firms spanning Fidelity and TT International, and earlier in his career, worked across hedge fund sales and convertible bond sales at Credit Suisse and ABN AMRO.  

BNP Paribas declined to comment when contacted by The TRADE.  

BNP Paribas recently expanded its global trading teams, acquiring AXA Investment Managers in a deal valued at €5.1 billion.  

All main legal mergers for the acquisition were completed in January 2026, creating a single entity BNP Paribas Asset Management, with several members of AXA IM’s trading team joining the firm.
