Investment bank Citi has appointed a new head of EMEA equities as it continues to develop its equities business.

According to an internal memo seen by theTRADEnews.com, Mike Pringle, who joined Citi as head of EMEA equities trading in July 2008 will assume the role, which has been left open since the promotion of Jim Cowles to a global equities role in 2007. Since late 2008, Cowles has moved up to become head of markets, EMEA.

In his new position, Pringle will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive strategy for Citi’s equities business in the EMEA region. Before joining Citi, Pringle was head of equity trading, EMEA at Merrill Lynch.

“Growing our equities business remains a key global markets priority. The EMEA equities business has made great strides this past year in growing revenues, increasing profitability, and upgrading talent,” read the memo. “He [Pringle] has extensive experience in both the cash and derivatives markets which has been crucial to our success in delivering a unified trading platform to our clients.”
