Cognotec, a provider of web-based institutional and retail foreign exchange trading solutions, yesterday announced it is to locate open a new data centre in Chicago. This strategic decision is the result of a co-location deal with web services provider Steadfast Networks and will mean that Cognotec's web services are hosted in the same location as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME).

Security features of the data centre will include extensive power back-up in the form of on-site diesel generators. The low incidence of environmental disruptions including hurricanes, tornados and floods in the Chicago area reduces the risk of outages due to natural events, notes the firm.

"This announcement signals to our clients that their operations are supported by the best technical infrastructure available today," comments Michael Begley, head of IT services, Cognotec. "Most of the physical connectivity between the East and West coasts goes through Chicago, which means the city offers ample network capacity H and millisecond response times for Cognotec users all over the US."
