International derivatives consultancy and software provider First Derivatives has launched a facility in Sydney where participants can take part in training and workshops examining key industry challenges.

The Global Centre of Excellence for Financial Market Analytics and Surveillance joins sister operations in London and New York and will bring participants together to focus on issues such as the monitoring of high-frequency trading activity and risk management.

In a statement, the firm said fee-based training sessions and seminars using its Delta Suite of products would be scheduled from early 2014. So far, three sessions have been scheduled, the first a free two-hour introduction to quantitative analytics using Delta and the kdb+ programming language.

“First Derivatives has worked on many complex implementations for market participants, exchanges and regulators across the globe and has a wealth of knowledge to bring to the Australian market,” Rob Hodgkinson, director APAC, for First Derivatives, said.

“We will offer thought leadership workshops and seminars for Surveillance and Compliance professionals as well as training for developers, analysts and administrators working in the area of data analytics using First Derivatives Delta suite of products.”

Other key issues the centre will focus on algo trading, surveillance and compliance, and advanced data analytics.

“Training courses have been developed and refined over the past five years and can be delivered either on or offsite by our qualified and highly experienced First Derivatives engineers,” Hodgkinson said.
