Former Sova Capital sales trading director joins Avior Capital Markets

Incoming sales trader and trader previously spent two and a half years at Sova Capital which went into special administration in March after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

A former Sova Capital sales trading director has joined Avior Capital Markets in an emerging and frontier markets sales trading and trading role.

Sam Docherty has joined Avior after two and a half years with Sova Capital as its director of sales trading for Central Eastern European, Middle East and Africa (CEEMA). Sova Capital went into special administration in March after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Docherty joined Sova Capital in December 2019 after 15 years with Deutsche Bank, beginning his career in London with independent brokerage UFG in 2004. UFG was then acquired by Deutsche Bank a couple of years later, and Docherty covered the CEEMA region as an equities sales trader for the bank following completion of the deal.

He left the investment bank when it confirmed it was shuttering its equities trading business.

“I’m excited to join the dynamic EM and frontier franchise at Avior Capital Markets,” Docherty told The TRADE.

“The company is quick to adapt and engage in new business opportunities globally, as well as maintain its core African market expertise. The business is growing rapidly and I look forward to the new challenges.”
