ICE trading solutions VP departs for SIX product strategy role

New managing director for product and commercial strategy at SIX spent the last six years at ICE in trading solutions and commercial strategy roles.

ICE’s former VP of trading solutions has left the exchange to join rival trading venue SIX in a product and commercial strategy role.

Shai Popat will head up product and commercial strategy at the SIX exchange after spending the last six  years working in ICE’s various businesses, most recently serving as its vice president of trading solutions for its data services business.

He has also served across several other commercial and trading solutions roles at ICE Data Services including global head of real time solutions and global head of commercial strategy.

Previously in his career, Popat served as a VP and general manager for trading solutions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Interactive Data, joining ICE when it acquired the data solutions provider in 2015, and spent five years at GFI Group as head of its EMEA market data business and later as its global head of market data.

“I am delighted to have Shai join our team and am confident that he has the expertise to help deliver our vision and take our business to the next level,” said Marion Leslie, head of financial information at SIX.

Popat’s appointment follows SIX’s recent appointment of a former State Street executive, David Newns, to head up its digital assets platform, SIX Digital Exchange, ahead of its upcoming launch.

The new platform, which gained regulatory approval from FINMA earlier this month, is a first for the market, offering central securities depository and stock exchange services for digital assets.

“I’m excited to join SIX to help continue building and accelerating our position as a trusted financial information provider,” said Popat.
