London Stock Exchange appoints new primary markets chief

The London Stock Exchange Group has appointed John Millar as head of primary markets.

The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has appointed John Millar as head of primary markets.

Millar, who joins LSEG from Espirito Santo Investment Bank, is based in London.

Millar reports to Raffaele Jerusalmi, director of capital markets and CEO of Borsa Italiana, and Alexander Justham, CEO of LSE.

Millar will be responsible for leading the primary markets business, focusing on IPO origination globally and working with teams in London, New York, and Milan.

Jerusalmi said, “John brings deep global experience in equity capital markets, having managed more than 300 transactions during his career.”

At Lisbon-headquartered Espirito Santo, was a managing director co-ordinating the investment banking and capital markets teams in London.

Millar has more than 25 years of experience in capital markets, and has raised over US$240 billion across a wide range of countries and sectors.

Before working at Espirito Santo, Millar was a managing director in equity capital markets at Citigroup, and managing director in corporate finance and equity capital markets at Merrill Lynch.

Before joining Merrill Lynch in 1990, Millar worked in corporate finance for Kidder, Peabody & Co.

Millar has an MBA from Stanford University, and a BS with honours from the University of Virginia.
