The London Stock Exchange has announced the appointment of Denzil Jenkins in the newly-created position of head of compliance and regulation.

Jenkins will join the LSE in early 2012 from his current role as director of regulation at pan-European multilateral trading facility (MTF) Chi-X Europe. He will report to LSE CEO Xavier Rolet.

“We’re delighted that Denzil will be joining the London Stock Exchange,” said Rolet. “His considerable international regulatory and industry experience will be a real asset to our organisation as we look to deliver our growth strategy.”

Steven Travers remains head of regulatory law and strategy at the LSE.

Prior to joining Chi-X, Jenkins worked at UK regulator the Financial Services Authority and Deutsche Bank.

“I am thrilled to be joining such a globally influential exchange at a key time in the development of international capital markets,” added Jenkins.

Chi-X Europe will learn in December whether its proposed merger with BATS Europe, the MTF operated by US-based exchange operator BATS Global Markets, will be permitted by the UK Competition Commission.
