Block trading venue operator Liquidnet has announced that Patrick Young has joined its European business as a non-executive director.

Young, who has over 20 years experience across cash and derivatives markets in Europe, North America and Australia, is currently chairman of DV Advisors, a securities exchange consultancy. He was also recently CEO of Romanian derivatives market SIBEX.

Young will provide strategic counsel to Liquidnet as it seeks to grow its business in the region and extend its exchange partnership strategy globally.

Liquidnet launched its exchange partnership scheme last July with SIX Swiss Exchange. Through the agreement, SIX Swiss Exchange members can send block orders to Liquidnet and interact with the block flow that resides in the multilateral trading facility. Speaking to theTRADEnews.com at the end of January, John Barker, managing director at Liquidnet Europe, said the firm hoped to sign up another three exchanges in the near future.

“Over the years I have watched with interest as Liquidnet has successfully created new opportunities for institutional investors and other capital market participants despite economic conditions and a changing equity market structure,” said Young.

Young joins executive directors Seth Merrin, John Barker, Simon Ormrod and fellow non-executive director Adrian Fitzpatrick, head of investment dealing at Kames Capital, on the Liquidnet board.
